I adore pineapple on pizza. It brings a sweet element to the pizza. Mushrooms just come on to the cheese bringing nothing, but a mushy texture.
The prime combo is: Pinapple, Bacon, Jalapeño. Sweet, Salty, Spicy.

Ultimate combo is tomato and basil

Pineapple belongs on pizza. Its wonderful. Its my opinion that Pepperoni is the pizza undesirable. little grease boats on a greasy sea.

I’m no pineapple lover, but vs. mushrooms, they are the clear winner.

Mus hrooms all day long.
Pineapple and tomatoes do not belong together. I’d be ok with pineapple on pizza without tomato sauce.

Pineapple, even if I didn’t like Hawaiian pizza.
I don't eat fungus.

Is this a Canadian thing? I order the same pizza as you, banana peppers are not the same as Jalapeños which make it just perfect. Pineapple is an excellent topping on Pizza, even gourmet style pizza.

Ya, I'm on the pineapple camp on this. It adds both sweet and sour flavors, which pairs well with salty and fatty ingredients.

I don’t hate pepperoni on pizza. It’s like the Camry of pizzas, you know what to except. It’s honest, it’s not pretending to be something that it is not.

Banana peppers work too.

Pineapple and tomatoes do not belong together.

I personally get mushrooms more often, I like a combo of italian sausage, green pepper (or maybe hot peppers) and mushrooms.
I don’t have anything against hawaiian pizzas, but I never really crave pineapple on pizza. It’s typically at parties where I’ll grab a slice or two and remind myself that it’s pretty good (especially with bacon instead of ham for that extra savoury/sweet combo) .

Mushrooms win, although I will eat pineapple on a pizza.
I literally made a dish with a mushroom puree as a primary ingredient and flavor element a week ago. Fite me

I’m not completely opposed to pineapple, but will choose mushrooms first.
Bacon is the best pizza topping, bar none.

Some Euro countries (in particular I’m thinking of Germany) have an odd thing of putting the pepperoni (usually actually salami (!) and referred to as that) under the cheese. The result is somewhat different. You might like it.

Oh, you do. You just may not realize it...

Mushrooms are gross in general, so most other pizza toppings would win that debate.

Ordered sausage pizza in Denmark (don’t judge, we had 15 eleven yo boys with us for soccer tournaments). It was a pizza with hot dogs broken up on top of it. Not good.

I could see that, though then you get sogginess I would imagine.

Not really soggy. More like a thin slice of a boiled sausage with a little intrusion of tomato flavor.

Yikes.

Also, as a note, if one orders a “Peperoni”(sic) pizza in Germany, one will receive a Pepp
eroncini be-peppered pizza, and not one with slices of pepperoncini’ed or chili’ed salami
(aka “pepperoni”).

Both ruin it.

mushroom, pineapple fruit has no business being cooked in/on food
![]() 09/23/2019 at 13:56 |

I don’t have a problem with mushrooms; I tend to prefer them only on some kind of major combo. A works, or a Philly cheesesteak style pizza...anything that already has peppers and onions, mushrooms can add some savory to balance the vegginess.
But I love sweet-savoury like no one’s business. A Hawaiian-style (add rooster sauce or jalapenos to make it really pop), or a BBQ chicken with either tomato or bbq sauce...even the basic combo of pepperoni and pineapple alone is pretty frickin’ fantastic. I agree that pineapple bacon jalapeno is pretty awesome, but I don’t know if it’s my favorite pineapple combo. Maybe a Hawaiian burger pizza: ground beef, bacon, peppers, pineapple, and burger sauce drizzled over top.
Know when pineapple doesn’t quite work? Just pineapple. Occasionally, a student asks for such (I do stacks of 1-topping pizza s, and with the oldest, I’ll let them choose an assortment of 1-toppers based on request, instead of 30 pepperonis), and...yeah, it just doesn’t work for me. If I throw some sriracha on it, ok, now it kind of works. Maybe I just NEED a meat to make the pineapple work on the pizza, but JUST pineapple as the sole topping? Mmmmm...no.
![]() 09/23/2019 at 13:56 |

I don’t particularly like pineapples on my pizza, but mushrooms are earthdirt...no thanks, unless they make you tripface and those days are over.
![]() 09/23/2019 at 14:04 |

Yes to everything but the pineapple.
I like veggie pizzas best just because the meats usually used on pizzas are so greasy and salty that they overwhelm my palate. I actually prefer my pepperoni on an antipasto plate, for instance, with some cheese, and my sausage with peppers and onions.
![]() 09/23/2019 at 14:11 |

My choice is either pineapple and jalapeño together or pepperoni and mushrooms together.
My favorite pizza is one I had for the first time in high school, and it never would have occurred to me to try it: bacon (real bacon, not Canadian) and GREEN olives. It sounded terrible at first, but I tried it and it was awesome. ( I should mention that one of my favorite foods is salt.)

This is a pretty normal thing in the US . Lots of pepperoni under the cheese, and a couple per slice on top as a garnish/identifier. Most people just don't notice.
![]() 09/23/2019 at 16:04 |
|
Love mushrooms. Mushrooms are the best. Mushrooms can go on just about any food and be amazing. But I also like pineapple on pizza, especially if the sauce is of a barbecue style nature.

Not around here (southeast) it doesn’t seem to be
. The local small pizza chain, the big boys, the common
freezer pizzas, the local brewery and its pizza house, none of it. The closest I’ve seen would be maybe cheese\pepperoni\extra cheese layering at Mellow Mushroom.
The ones I had when I was visiting Germany had *none* above the cheese, all 100% submerged, and the salami slices were thicker and sometimes a little more like a genoa than pepperoni per se.

It was beef wellington. One with mushroom duxelles and mustard wrapped in prosciutto under the pastry, and one with more traditional mushroom duxelles + chicken liver pate’ + prosciutto + pastry.
The duxelles is kind of like
cooked-down mushroom + garlic/onion + spices vegemite.

None under the cheese feels like getting ripped off unless the pepperonis are huge and cover most of the slice.
![]() 09/23/2019 at 16:16 |

There’s a little bit of multi-layering with the cheese sometimes, but pepperoni slices down in the tomato sauce and invisible, I have seen approximately never in the southeastern
US.

Even from big chains like Little Caesars or Domino's? I'm pretty sure both of them do it.
![]() 09/23/2019 at 16:25 |

Maybe if you didnt have red goo for sauce instead of sweet tart real fresh tomato sauce, you wouldnt need pinnaple. The sauce should be one of the stars of the show, even above the cheese.
Mushrooms all the way.

Agree with the peperoni disagree with the pineapple.

Haven’t had Little Caesars in ages. I can discount Papa Johns and Pizza Hut doing it, pretty sure, and I don’t
think
the last couple of Domino’s experiences I’ve had were sub-pepped. There may be a whole franchise playbook variation depending on region, which would be
weird.

This thread was massively entertaining to read.
Also, who would’ve thought that such a large portion of supposed adults would have such aversions to mushrooms. Even my 16 month old loves them! But then again she loves spinach too, strange child.

Counterpoint: foraged wild mushrooms (morels, chanterelles, etc) on pizza are divine.
